Why You Must Keep Your WordPress Website Updated
WordPress is the most popular type of website on the internet today, which makes it a favorite for hackers to target. You can’t afford to not maintain it regularly or you run the risk of someone inserting malware or completely taking it over.
Regular updates fix bugs and issues in previous issues known to cause problems, or openings hackers found to gain entrance. New versions have better security and performance. When your site isn’t updated on a regular basis, you are susceptible to being hacked or infected with malware.
If you don’t have a current backup, you are pretty much sunk unless you pay someone handsomely to clean up and try to restore your site.
Our process
After we receive your website login information, our process is as follows:
- Before doing anything, we make a full backup of your website files and database. If you subscribe to one of our hosting plans, we do this before migration as well.
- Run a security scan of the website to check for malware, malicious files, or any other security issues.
- Clean and optimize the database, and compress images, which will help the site load faster.
- All updates are completed, including WordPress core, themes, and plugins.
- Check that the site is still functioning as it should after the updates.
- Ensure that your site is indexed in the search engines.
- Remove any spam comments and notify you if there are comments you need to approve or disapprove.
- If your login is weak (using admin as username and/or a weak password), we will change them to improve the security of the site and send you the new information.
- Remove inactive themes and plugins.
- Make a new backup.
Updates
We will manually log in to your website every 2 weeks to update everything. Your site is backed up, then if there is a WordPress core update, we do that first. Then each plugin is updated, checking after each one to be sure there are no problems. The same process is followed for the themes. We don’t use an automated process so we can take care of any issues or conflicts that may occur immediately.
Backups
Weekly backups are performed and stored off-site for 6 months. For hosting plans, there is additional daily backups, on a 28 day rolling basis. The Ultimate Plan provides for a backup to be restored free of charge, in the unlikely case you ever need it.
UpTime Monitoring 24/7
We monitor your website around the clock for any potential issues, including going offline. If you are on one of our hosting plans, we get the problem resolved quickly.
Content Edits
Our Ultimate Care Plan gives you 45 minutes of content edits every month. This includes edits to text on any page or blog post, changing images or banners, and edits to the header or footer.
We do not do custom development or coding, do not create new content, pages or images, and do not edit images.
If you already have a blog set up, we can create a new blog post when you submit the text and image for it.
Turnaround time for content is typically 48 hours or less during the week. If it is something that needs to be done quickly, let us know and we’ll do our best to complete it on time.
The 45 minute time for content edits does not roll over if you don’t need to use it in a given month. However, if you have a content job that will take up to an hour, we will do it at no extra charge if you haven’t used your time for edits every month. If you have, or if the job will require more than an hour, we will quote what it will cost for the overtime at our discounted rate of $99 hour.

We will do an initial scan for Malware, do updates, and make an initial manual backup. You’ll then be added into our system for monitoring so we will know if your website ever goes down.

Because we provide services from the first day you sign up, we do not offer refunds for monthly plans. However, you are free to cancel your plan at any time. When you do, your service will continue until the end of the current month, unless you request immediate cancellation.
If you need to cancel part-way through an annual plan, we will issue a partial refund for the unused portion.
Yes, we will update everything, including the WordPress core version, plugins, and themes. Everything is checked to be sure there are no conflicts after the updates are completed.
Unless you cancel your hosting account with MicaTech, billing for hosting services will be AUTOMATICALLY charged (either on a monthly OR yearly basis) depending on how the original subscription was created.
Your credit card will be charged on the same day of every subsequent month for monthly subscriptions and on the same date of the following year/s for annual subscriptions.
MicaTech Total WP Site Care will automatically send an email notification of rebilling charges.
Our Essential WP Care plan covers basic maintenance and does not include fixing a hacked site. We can restore a prior backup we have stored for an additional fee.
If you have one of our hosting plans and your site gets hacked or malware is discovered, we will fix it for free. This doesn’t cover a site that is already hacked or has malware when you sign up with us.
No! We work with anyone no matter where their website is being hosted. However, some hosting is not as good as others and can negatively affect your site speed and security. If your website does not have a strong login password, we will update it to decrease the potential for being hacked.
We highly recommend moving to our hosting for the increased security and speed.
Yes, we will move your existing website to our hosting for Free, quickly and efficiently. All your content will be moved safely so you don’t have any interruption during the process.
Absolutely! We recommend starting with the monthly so you can feel comfortable with our service before taking advantage of the discounted annual plan. Just email us when you’re ready to change and we can get you set up.
If you choose a monthly plan, your payments will be made every month on the same date through Stripe’s recurring payment gateway, using a debit or credit card.
The Essential WP Care Plan has a monthly backup stored off-site. Hosting plans include daily backups for 28 days running, and one backup stored offsite each month.
You are welcome to purchase additional plans for other websites you own.
